Safe Trailer Operation: Trailer Capacity above 4500 Kg

Towing a trailer is no small task and should be undertaken with great care. An incident involving a tow vehicle and trailer can have greater consequences than it would with a small car. Drivers need to understand the challenges presented and how to properly navigate what problems may arise.

This course is intended to provide comprehensive information on the requirements and best practices of towing a trailer with a capacity above 4500 Kilograms and works from 5 principal concepts:

1) Driver – Knowledge, training and experience

2) Tow Vehicle – Capacity, condition, maintenance

3) Connection Method – Types of hitch systems

4) Trailer – Load capacity, axels, trailer design

5) Load – Location, securing, load configuration

Whether towing a light boat or camping trailer behind a car, a vacation trailer behind your motorhome or a trailer to haul equipment or products, it is critical to balance the load and prepare the trailer and tow vehicle. This course will introduce participants to common problems and their resolutions.

For the experienced driver, it is an opportunity to review and improve existing knowledge and skills; for novice drivers, this material provides fundamental knowledge and understanding of what to expect while trailering.
